The Old Three Notch Chapter of the Daughters of American Revolution will celebrate ‘Stars and Stripes’ forever with its high school essay contest open to students in grades nine through 12.
The topic for 2024-2025 is “Patriots of the American Revolution” and essays must be between 800 and 1,200 words.
“We are excited for the return of DAR’s annual high school essay contest again this year and look forward to our local youth participating. This is a great way for students to learn about historical figures and prominent individuals from our nation’s past. We encourage all of our schools to have students participate and look forward to reading the essays after they are received,” Old Three Notch DAR Regent Carol Ann Mullins said.
Students are asked to select a figure from the era of the American Revolution from 1773 to 1783. The essay requires students to discuss how the figure of their choosing influenced the course of the American Revolution, who he or she was, and the contribution that historic character made to the founding of a new nation. A figure must have been an actual person and one who is well known or an everyday man, woman, or child, who supported the American Revolution in ways large or small.
