It’s an out-of-this-world original sci-fi musical adventure in the Missoula Children’s Theatre’s adaptation of “Gulliver’s Travels.”
With his spaceship wrecked and his trusty computer on the fritz, brave explorer Gulliver finds himself lost in space. While transporting from world to world, Gulliver discovers fighting aliens, foolish Yahoos, robots, and more – all who need just as much help from Gulliver as Gulliver needs from them.
Under the direction of MCT Tour Actors Joe Drummond and Susie Miskin, local students auditioned Monday afternoon and practiced four hours each evening, enhancing their stagecraft skills and choreography.
Gulliver will be played by Addison Keigans and his trusty computer JCN (Jason) is Kimber Forman. Trinity O’Rourke is the Maniacal Scientist of Lapunta (la-poon-ta) and the Robots of Lapunta are Joseph O’Rourke, and Bay Kelly. The Houyhnhnm (who-in-um) Horses are Pacey Warren, Emma Sightler, and D.J. Rucker, the Yahoos are Zoey Knight, Carver Day, and Dmani Rucker, the Aliens of Liiliput are Lily Jones, Anna Grace Maddox, and Xyannah Rucker, and the Aliens of Blefuscu (blue-foo-skoo) are Ella Jones, Xy’Mir and Xy’Ion Rucker. A musical accompanist will be provided by Dr. Steve Hubbard and lighting and sound will be provided by Jerry Wishum.
A Friday morning performance will entertain local fourth graders from Covington County schools. “Gulliver’s Travels” will be presented to the public on Saturday, August 24, 2 p.m., at the Solon and Martha Dixon Theater for the Performing Arts on the campus of LBW. Tickets are $5 and will be available at the door.
The Missoula Children’s Theatre residency in Andalusia is sponsored by the Covington Arts Council with support from LBW, the Dixon Foundation, Lower Alabama Arts Coalition, Amp Up Arts, and the Alabama State Council on the Arts.
Celebrating over 50 years of touring, the Missoula Children’s Theatre International Tour has fostered developmental life skills in more than a million kids. Our tour reaches 65,000 children in more than 1,000 communities in all 50 states and over 15 countries each year.
