Pleasant Home, new coach ready to take field against Geneva County

Pleasant Home (0-0) will start off the 2024 football season and its 25th year of existence with a new man leading the charge against Class 2A Geneva County (0-0) on Friday, August 23, at 7 p.m.
Kevin Bond, a 2002 Straughn alumnus, will make his head-coaching debut with the Eagles after serving as an assistant coach for seven years at Elba and Kinston. He succeeds former coach Cody Sellers who left after two seasons. Al Gilmore is also in his first season with the Bulldogs.
This game will be the ninth matchup between the two teams and their first meeting since 2013. The Bulldogs hold an all-time 7-1 series lead over the Eagles. In the last meeting, Geneva County traveled to Pleasant Home and won a region matchup, 33-7.
Pleasant Home finished the 2023 season with a 1-9 record. Geneva County was 0-10 a year ago.
