James ‘Jim’ Allen McKinney

James (Jim) Allen McKinney, 85, passed away on July 23, 2024 at his home in Red Level.

Born on July 12, 1939, in Valparaiso, Indiana, he was known for wood working, his love of fishing and helping the community. Jim’s life was defined by his love for helping his community along with children through the Shriners, Masons and Scottish Rite organizations. He served in the United States Navy from 1957 to 1960 where he then joined the Naval Reserves and was Honorably Discharged in 1963. Jim worked as a carpenter and at Bethlehem Steel Mill in Burns Harbor, Indiana until his retirement when he relocated to Red Level. He has been involved with multiple Shriner, Scottish Rite and Mason lodges throughout Indiana and Alabama. He also served on the Beat 8 Volunteer Fire Department.

He is survived by his daughter, Joyce Luke, and her husband, Rodney; his grandchildren, Alexandra Luke and Logan Luke. Jim also leaves behind many, many friends whom he would call ‘family.’

He was preceded in death by wife, Ruby Faye McKinney.

His memorial service will be held Saturday, August 17, 3 p.m., at Beat 8 Fire Department located at 3362 County Hwy 24, Red Level.

Jim’s legacy of love, friendship, and community will be remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
