Patrick Anton Kleiss, 82, passed away on August 2 in Gadsden, Alabama. He was born in Lamar, Missouri, on Oct. 8, 1941, to Clara Loeffelholz and Emil Kleiss.
Pat graduated from Lamar High School, and he received a B.A and M.Ed. degrees from University of Missouri. Pat also served in the United States Air Force from 1967 through 1971. He worked in the mental health field in many capacities for over 30 years.
Pat is survived by his wife of 53 years, Betty Radcliff Kleiss; his two daughters, Jean Kleiss (John Mark) Cooper and Robin Kleiss (James) Ewing; six grandchildren, Carter, Stinson, and Ben Cooper, and Larkin, Patrick and Mae Ewing. He is also survived by his extended family, Robin and Rickey Rhodes and Dare’ and Donny Radcliff.
Pat and Betty settled in Andalusia shortly after they were married to raise their family. Pat extended his love to many interests throughout his life – antique restoration, fishing, gardening and also the love of animals and nature. However, the one he loved the most is Alabama Football.
Pat was known for his unwavering patience and never-ending kindness. “Kindness is a kind of magic, in return we get love which is eternal,” and Pat Kleiss had all the magic. For a quiet man, he sure did cast a large shadow.
There will be a memorial service on Saturday, August 10, at the First Methodist Church, 403 East Three Notch Street, Andalusia, Alabama. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. with the service to follow at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to be made to Absolute Fitness/SilverSneakers Rainbow City, Alabama (Pat joined SilverSneakers a few years ago and found a great deal of enjoyment through the classes and fellowship) or the charity of your choice. Absolute Fitness, 115 West Grand Avenue, Rainbow City, AL 35906.
