The Andalusia Coterie Club will see the return of its annual Storybook Festival and Coterie Run for Kids on Saturday, May 11.

The Storybook Festival at Springdale is free to attend and will be held for the 51st time. Destiny Smith and Kelley Nolan will serve as chairs of the event. Gates will open at noon before stories begin at 1 p.m.

“The inherent fun of the festival, combined with the excitement of the 5K run, is sure to provide a lively and enjoyable atmosphere. The inclusion of physical activity with the run adds an energetic dimension to the day,” Smith said. “I look forward to seeing the lasting benefits the festival and run will bring to the social, cultural, and economic aspects of the community. Such events play a crucial role in enhancing community spirit and boosting the local economy.”

There will be interactive stories, food trucks, arts and crafts, and a bounce house at the Storybook Festival. Activities planned include a performance by Coterie Club, an excerpt from “Aladdin,” a story from Caryl Lee Ray, and two performances by Jeanni Sanders and friends.

“These elements combine to make the Storybook Festival and 5K run a highlight of the year, anticipated for its educational, cultural, and recreational contributions to Covington County. This year’s festival promises fresh and unique experiences, thanks to a diverse lineup of performers set to grace the stage. Each year brings its own distinct flair, and this time around, we’re excited to see what new talents and performances will captivate our audience,” Smith said.

The Coterie Run for Kids will be held for the 21st time with a Star Wars theme. Participants are encouraged to register online at athlinks.com under Coterie Run 2024. Those who choose to register in person can do so on the front lawn of City Hall beginning at 7 a.m. Paper applications for the race may be downloaded by clicking here.

Open to all ages, the 5K begins at 8 a.m. with a $25 cost through Friday, May 10, and $30 on race day. A Meredith’s Mile Run/Walk for ages 3-12 begins at 9 a.m. and is $15. A free Tot Trot for ages 0-4 starts at 9:30 a.m.

An awards presentation will be held beginning at 10 a.m. on the front lawn. T-shirts ranging in size from youth small to 2XL will be available for $25 and $15 for Tot Trot participants.

Sponsored by the Parnassus Club, the Coterie Club was formed in October 1948. It gives back to organizations such as Andalusia City Schools, Covington County Schools, Distinguished Young Women, Meredith’s Miracles, Community Christmas, the Covington County Child Advocacy Center, Covington Arts Council, South Alabama Mental Health, and senior scholarships.

“The Coterie Club’s Storybook Festival and 5K run aim to boost community spirit and unity, offering an engaging blend of imagination and action. These events also serve as vital fundraisers, with all proceeds reinvested into Covington County to support schools, arts, mental health services, and scholarships, addressing diverse local needs. Through these festivities, the Club not only delivers immediate enjoyment but also contributes to the long-term well-being of the community,” Smith said.
