Andalusia Public Library hosted a book signing for Trippy McGuire and his second book “Splendors from Our Past: The Shepard Mansion, The Shepard Family and the Ghost Town of Poley, Alabama” on Wednesday, April 10.

In addition to being an author, McGuire serves as chairman of the Covington County Children’s Policy Council and Alabama Partnership for Children’s. He is a 1975 Auburn University alumnus with a degree in History. He graduated from Cumberland School of Law in 1978 and practiced law in Opp for 13 years, which included eight years as a part-time assistant district attorney and six years as Opp municipal judge. McGuire then served as the district judge of Covington County for 21 years and retired in 2014.

APL staff members decorated McGuire’s signing area with period props, researched articles on the ghost town of Poley, included Katherine Shepard’s poetry, adorned it with pine tree slabs and fresh flowers, and also had a framed portrait of the Shepard Mansion.

McGuire published his first book “A Roaring 20’s Flapper Who Broke Glass Ceilings: Winnie Wright in the Early Boomtown Years of Opp, Alabama” in December 2022.
