It was a busy night on the campus of Pleasant Home Thursday where the Lady Eagles welcomed county rival Red Level while the boys’ baseball team took on Baker in a doubleheader.
The Eagles fell in both contests to Baker, 14-4 and 15-6, respectively. The Eagles’ overall record stands at 0-3 on the young season and will look to get their first victory when they welcome McKenzie on Monday, March 4.
Meanwhile, on the softball field, the Lady Eagles fell to Red Level, 14-8.
Red Level took the early lead in the top of the first when Amaya Williams singled to bring home Kennedy Lord. Williams then stole second and then advanced to third on a passed ball. Bailey Green singled to bring Williams home, making the score 2-0.
Pleasant Home cut the lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the first when Hailey Ward scored on a fielder’s choice.
Red Level added to their lead in the top of the second. Ke’mariah Crittenden opened the inning reaching after being hit by a pitch. She advanced when Kayden Lord earned a walk. Greer Meeks followed with a single that loaded the bases for the Lady Lady Tigers. Kennedy Lord then slapped a two-run line-drive single to left field. Pleasant Home escaped with no more damage thanks to a double play ball fielded by second baseman Ivy Youngblood.
Pleasant Home got one run back in their half of the inning when Amaya Williamson scored on an error, making the score 4-2.
Red Level made it 5-2 in the top of the third on a sacrifice fly by Crittenden, scoring Caroline Blackwell.
Pleasant Home started the bottom of the third with consecutive walks. Jaiden Paul laced a double bringing in Youngblood while Kayden Weaver advanced to third. Weaver then scored on a passed ball and Jaiden Paul later scored on an error off the bat of Amy Sansom that tied the game at 5-5. Pleasant Home took a 6-5 lead on a passed ball that allowed Sansom to score.
Red Level scored four times in the top of the fourth, including a two-run double off the bat of Blackwell.
Red Level added three more in the fifth, going up 12-6. That lead would be too much for the Lady Eagles to overcome as Red Level went on to earn a 14-8 victory.
The Lady Tigers’ pitching duo of Bailey Green and Caroline Blackwell held Pleasant Home to only two hits in the game while combining for eight strikeouts. Blackwell was also a leader on offense, going 2 for 3 with four RBI. Kennedy Lord went 3 for 5 with three RBI.
For Pleasant Home, Sansom pitched the complete game. Weaver and Paul had the Lady Eagles’ only hits.
It was the first game for Pleasant Home, opening the season at 0-1. They will look for their first when at McKenzie on Monday, March 4.
Red Level stands at 4-3 on the season and travels to Greenville on Monday, March 7.
