The Covington Region Honor Flight is the only working hub in Alabama for the Honor Flight Network and has taken WWII, Korean War, and Vietnam War veterans to Washington, D.C., for several years.
Each flight is a big expense and an immense undertaking to make a dream happen for our brave veterans and their guardians. Nevertheless, the flight comes to fruition each time.
This year, Ron Hargrove approached the Honor Flight committee about having a fundraiser for the next Honor Flight. It was an opportunity the committee embraced. He has acquired and collected incredible WWII memorabilia, vehicles, weaponry, and even an airplane.
The WWII Show “A Night at the Museum” on Saturday, April 6, will allow patriots from the area and beyond to see this amazing collection up close and personal. Gates will open at 1 p.m., and the event will be held from 4 until 9 p.m. at 22378 Still Pond Road in Florala.
In addition, there will be a USO-styled show for entertainment. The scheduled performers are Bill Johnson as Master of Ceremony Bob Hope, Gib Buckbee as Five Star General George Patton, and the Blue Anchor Belles Andrews Sisters Tribute. U.S. Congressman Barry Moore will serve as a guest speaker at the event. Guests will be served a delicious BBQ dinner provided and prepared by Hargrove.
“This event will be a game changer for the next Honor Flight, tentatively scheduled for fall 2024. It will allow them to help pay for the veterans who sign up and the expenses that day accrues,” Honor Flight Committee Member Emilee Gage said.
Tickets are $100 each per person, which includes entrance, museum, show, and dinner. Space is limited, and ticketholders must present their ticket at the event. All proceeds will benefit the Covington Region Honor Flight, which is a 501(c)(3) organization.
