The Straughn Lady Tigers pulled away early in their game last Friday night against Georgianna while the boys’ team could not keep pace with the Panthers.

Led by two three-pointers from Ora Hall and solid defensive play, the Lady Tigers took a 13-2 lead over Georgiana in the first period.

Things only got more one-sided from there as Straughn continued to outpace the Lady Panthers in the second period, taking a 23-7 lead into the half. Tori Canant hit a three-pointer for the Lady Tigers in the second and Allyx Williamson added three points with a basket and free throw.

Hall notched her third three-pointer of the game in the third period while Blakeley Smith scored her first. Williamson added six points more points to her total in that period as the Lady Tigers stretched their lead to 37-14.

The Lady Panthers did outscore Straughn in the final period, 17-16, as some younger Lady Tigers took the court and preserved the lead and a 53-31 win.

Leading scorer for the Lady Tigers was Williamson with 12 points and she was followed by Hall who had 11. Six different Lady Tigers added four points each.

Georgiana’s Lillie Boggan led all scorers in the game with 18 points.

The Lady Tigers (14-6) will travel to East Brewton to take on W.S. Neal for an area contest on Thursday, Jan. 18.

The Tigers made a frantic push to try and overcome a big deficit to Georgiana, but came up short, 60-54.

Georgiana’s Noah Nelson provided the offensive burst that helped propel his team to an early 15-9 lead after one period. Joseph Driver’s three-pointer, along with four points from Parker Black kept the Tigers within striking distance.

The second period was low-scoring with both teams coming away with only six points each as Straughn remained behind at the half, 21-15.

The Panthers extended their lead with a strong offensive performance in the third, outscoring Straughn 22-13 and increasing their lead to 43-28 going into the final period. Driver nailed three three-pointers in the period for the Tigers.

The Tigers outscored Georgiana 26-14 in the final period. The team hit five three-pointers down the stretch with three coming from Kaden Wiggins, who had a total of 18 points in the fourth. Driver also nailed another three-pointer and Clark Gay added a basket. The deficit proved too much to overcome as the Panthers held on for the 60-54 win.

Leading scorer for the Tigers was Wiggins with 20 points and Driver finished with 17. Black added nine points and Layne Grantham chipped in four points.

Nelson and Nasir Cheatham each had 12 points as scoring leaders for the Panthers. Quantavious Scott added 10 points.

The Tigers (6-11) will travel for an area game against W.S. Neal on Thursday, Jan. 18.
