The body of a man who apparently fell into Point A Lake on Sunday morning was recovered by local officials.
According to Gantt Police Chief Ken Harris, Covington County 911 received a call at approximately 8:30 a.m. Sunday to report that a white male, 38, of Covington County had fallen off a pier into Point A Lake and did not return to the surface. The pier was located at a residence on Brogden Road.
Harris said once on the scene, he saw what appeared to be boots visible from the water not far from the pier. At that time the man was pulled from the water and was determined to be deceased.
Officials said there was at least one witness on the scene when the man allegedly fell into the water.
The body has been sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in an attempt to determine the official cause of death, according to Harris.
The identity of the victim is being withheld at this time pending the cause of death and notification of family.
Gantt Police, Covington County Sheriff’s Department and River Falls Police all responded to the scene.
Officials with the Gantt Police Department request anyone with information about the incident to call the Covington County Command Center at 334-427-4911 and request to speak with Chief Ken Harris.
Nothing further is available as the investigation continues, Harris said.
