The Andalusia Rotary Club crowned champions following its 47th Annual World Championship Domino Tournament on Friday and Saturday with Norman Turner taking the singles’ title for the second time.
Turner has played in all but two of the Andalusia Rotary Club’s 47 World Championship Domino Tournaments, and on Friday, he won the Single Championship for the second time.
Turner, who lives in Ozark, also won the title in 1990.
Turner defeated Devin Rambo in the finals to win the 2023 title, and said the victory was extra sweet because he lost to Rambo in the doubles finals last year.
Turner won the $5,000 purse and a championship belt.
Rambo, who hails from Kansas City, Missouri, won $1,500 as the runner-up. John Flanner and Darron Edwards won $400 each in third and fourth places. In the Singles Consolation bracket, Rickey Rambo, also of Kansas City, won $1,000 for first place and Ralph Thoreson pocketed $500 for second place. The 47th Annual World Championship Domino Tournament continued Saturday with doubles play.
Rambo, Livingston are doubles champions
Rickey Rambo and Lyndon Livingston found themselves in a place where they might feel pretty comfortable this weekend when they won the doubles competition in the World Championship Domi-no Tournament.
Livingston, who is from Kinder, La., also shared the doubles title last year, and Rambo, who is from Kansas City, MO, was last year’s singles winner.
Each took home a $2,500 check and a prize belt.
The 2023 team of Rambo and Livingston defeated Ricky Parrish and Jerry Newsome in the doubles finals. The semi-finalists each won $750. The team of Pat Henke and Willie Palmer won third place, and Larry George and Devin Rambo came in fourth.
The team of Phil Baker and Jeremy Judd won the consolation bracket when they defeated Arthur Tew and Anthony Rogers.
Teen division
Chris Lawrence was the singles winner in the teens’ division. Richie Philpott was the runner-up in singles. The team of Hutcheson Scott and Emma Cate Jernigan defeated Kinsley Stovall and Hugh Stovall to win the teen doubles division of the WCDT.
The team of Charlie Philpott and Brett Sanders were third and Haley Warmack and Chris Lawrence were fourth. In the Teen Doubles Consolation bracket, Kip Knight and Jake Kelley were first, and Gray Dalton and Will Dalton were second.
Children’s division
Brett Sanders was the singles winner in the children’s division. Maggie Jernigan was the runner-up in singles. In the children’s bracket, the team of Holly Knight and Maggie Jernigan won the doubles title when they defeated John Matthew Carnley and Cale Courson.
Breanna Sanders and Brett Sanders placed third, and Kyler Salter and Emma Sightler were fourth.
In the Children’s Consolation Bracket, Hank Patterson and Lily Janes Williams were first, and Eli Jones and Hayden Graviet were second.
The Andalusia Rotary Club congratulates all of this year’s winners.
