Smash Mouth Foods owner Jared Hawsey has combined two of the summer’s biggest frozen treats with the launch of The Ice/Cream Parlor of Andalusia.

He first opened to the public on Wednesday, June 21.

“I saw a need in this city for a nice sit-down ice cream parlor. I have two small children, and we love going out for ice cream, but you are limited on where you go and what you can get there. Investing in where you live is one of the most fulfilling things you can do in business. These are my people, and this is my town,” Hawsey said.

In addition to soft-serve ice cream and snow cones, the menu includes milkshakes, smoothies, iced coffee, hot coffee, lattes, and baked goods in the future.

“It really warms your heart, especially when you see a family or maybe some old friends getting together and enjoying a nice frozen treat. I love how it brings people together and being a part of those memories. We will have vanilla, chocolate, and swirl ice cream with a number of toppings as well as a dip cone with chocolate and a revolving flavor. It could be birthday cake, could be blueberry, but it will change periodically.”

Ice cream will be served in three forms: cone, milkshake, and cup. Toppings are strawberry syrup, chocolate syrup, caramel syrup, Snickers crumble, Twix crumble, Oreo crumble, Reese’s crumble, and sprinkles. Several SnoBiz flavors are also available.

“Having ice cream or a snow cone is a perfect way to cool off and fellowship with friends and family. I remember driving to Dairy Queen with my grandfather, what the building looked like, and where we sat. I love meeting new people and the business game. I love starting systems and procedures. I enjoy figuring out how to grow and the challenges that come with it,” he said.

One of Hawsey’s future goals is to expand his business with additional locations.

“I want to give other people the opportunity to open up their own ice cream parlor with the knowledge I have gained. It’s really special when you have folks behind you and when people want to see you succeed. I hope I’m building a legacy that will be passed down to my kids. I just want to encourage anyone out there who might be thinking of starting a business but is frozen by the thought of what that entails. The graveyard is full of inventions and businesses that never saw the daylight, so use your life while you have it. Start something cool and fun and contribute to your community, and leave something for your family.”

The Ice/Cream Parlor of Andalusia is located at 1513 East Three Notch Street. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. and Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
