The Andalusia High School marching band will be under new direction this coming fall as the city’s school board tapped Dillon Worley to be the next band director.

Worley served most recently as the band director at Opp High School, previously working at Kinston High School. He is a Covington County native and 2008 graduate of Straughn High School.

The Star-News will have more information about Worley and the marching band both online and in an upcoming edition.

Other personnel moves approved by the board during a meeting on Thursday include:

Resignations

• Selena Brown — fifth grade teacher at AES.
• Monty Russell — physical education paraprofessional at AES.
• Beth Hopkins — special education teacher at AHS.
• Bennie Shellhouse — administrative assistant to the superintendent.

Retirement

• Craig Cottle — bus shop mechanic.

Status Change

• Amber Campbell — moving from third grade to fifth grade teacher.
• Vanessa Hernandez — first grade special education to fifth grade special education teacher.
• Dawn Ruth — AES teacher to fifth grade teacher.

New Hires

• Madison McCormick — first grade special education teacher at AES.
• Jennifer Smith — third grade teacher at AES.
• Dillon Worley — band director at AHS.

Superintendent Dr. Daniel Shakespeare said positions remaining open  include a fifth grade teacher, physical educaition teacher and paraprofessional for AES, special education teacher at AHS, and a bus mechanic.

The board also received teacher and student handbook revisions to review. A vote to approve the changes could be held at the next meeting.

The next BOE meeting was scheduled for Monday, July 10, at 6 p.m.
