Town and Country first opened its doors on the square in 1951, and after 72 years in business, the local boutique is back where it originally started in downtown Andalusia.

The shop, which was on the bypass in the Trio shopping center with two other merchants, welcomed customers to its new location in the Prestwood Building on Tuesday, May 30.

“I am so excited about moving Town and Country back to our Square. It’s where the shop originally began in 1951. I’ve looked at our little corner of the Prestwood Building my entire life and often dreamed of having a shop there. It’s truly a dream come true to be operating in such a beautiful and historic space,” Owner Terri Proctor said.

Proctor and her husband Will are Andalusia natives with family roots that run deep in Andalusia’s history and entrepreneurship.

“We love Andalusia, and history and tradition are very important to me. All three of my sons have been given family names. My house is full of furniture and items that belonged to grandparents, great-grandparents, and other special family members.”

Merle Jones opened Town and Country and moved it down South Three Notch Street to the former Foreman’s Funeral Home after 10 years. Jones’ daughter Pat Thompson continued to own and manage the shop until a second owner purchased it.

Proctor became the third owner in the summer of 2020 and immediately talked with City of Andalusia officials about returning downtown. The shop is just steps from its original location in 1951.

“I have enjoyed decorating our Court Square shop with antiques from my home and new-to-us antique furnishings and décor. We are so proud of our gorgeous new shop and look forward to showing new and old customers around the space,” she said.

The boutique has doubled its square footage from its previous location.

“As the summer progresses, we will bring in more inventory. We will once again carry children’s clothing and have even added a couple of new lines for men. We are still one of only a handful of independent boutiques worldwide that sells Estée Lauder. We offer tuxedo rentals for proms, weddings, and other special events. We also sell suits, ties, and more through a partnership with Jim’s Formal Wear.”

Town and Country Boutique is located at 10 West Court Square in Andalusia. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
