Red Level advances; OHS, SHS end baseball seasons

Red Level swept a doubleheader from Central-Hayneville on the road in the first round of the state baseball playoffs Friday, April 21.
The Tigers took down the Lions (12-8) in a slugfest in the first game, 21-19, and then completed the sweep with a 17-5 win in five innings.
Connor Blackwell went 4-for-4 with four runs scored and five RBIs in the first contest. Buddy Griffin, Walker Simmons, Javen Poindexter, and Kennith Huckabaa each added a hit in the win. Brock Skipper earned the win with five innings on the mound, while Griffin had the save with a scoreless inning in relief.
Blackwell finished 3-for-3 with four runs scored and two RBIs in the second game. Malikye Wright, Caleb Padgett, and Poindexter all tallied two hits. Griffin was credited with the win after four innings.
Red Level (10-7) will host Leroy (16-17) in a second-round series scheduled to begin Wednesday, April 26, at 1 p.m. If a third game is needed, it will be played Thursday, April 27, at 3:30 p.m.
Florala (14-2) will travel to Billingsley (16-3) for a second-round series beginning Friday, April 28, at 4:30 p.m. If a third game is needed, it will be played Saturday, April 29, at noon.
In other first-round action, Opp fell in a home doubleheader against Saint James (17-12). The Bobcats ended the season with a final record of 13-13 after falling to the Trojans 10-3 and 15-4. Straughn fell short on the road at Childersburg (13-10). The Tigers (11-11) won the first game 8-3 before CHS took the final two games of the series 2-1 and 5-4.
