For approximately two years, Scofield Animal Rescue in Opp has served the community by vetting, fostering, and finding homes for needy animals.

From litters of puppies found on dirt roads to cats that camp under buildings, the small yet dedicated team behind the rescue effort has made a difference in the lives of countless animals.

“We pour our time and energy into ensuring every animal in our community has a fighting chance,” co-founder Kelley Fore said. “We aim to be a voice for the dogs and cats who have entered this world without one, and I am excited to see our rescue continue to grow.”

The animal rescue group partners with many other rescue organizations. Their collective mission is simple: to save dogs and cats from euthanasia and find a loving and lasting home for each, but the work is never-ending and costly.

As such, Scofield Animal Rescue has applied for and received non-profit status under its new operating name, Finding Forever Dog and Cat Rescue.

“We are excited to leap into the future, and we are counting on our community and peers to help us succeed,” co-founder Stacey Scofield said. “For years we have worked tirelessly to care for dogs and cats and to raise money to ensure each animal we encounter has proper vetting, including vaccines and spay or neuter procedures.”

Previously, the rescue’s volunteers have held rummage sales and bake sales to raise necessary monies to sustain their rescue efforts and pay for essential vetting. Finding Forever will continue to engage in fundraising efforts, but now, the non-profit rescue organization can accept donations from community members.

Finding Forever Dog and Cat Rescue will hold an event called “Farm Day” on Saturday, April 1, at Tractor Supply at 511 Florala Highway in Opp. Those attending will have the opportunity to meet incredible rescues, purchase from a bake sale fundraiser, and enjoy face painting, candied apples, and a raffle drawing.

The organization also has an Amazon Wishlist which the public can help by making donations. Items needed include dry and canned dog food, dog shampoo, dog sweaters and jackets, travel kennels, dog treats, and paper towels.
