Graveside services for Richard Calvin Miller of Mobile, Alabama were held Thursday, Jan. 5, 2023, at 10 a.m., at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spanish Fort, Alabama, with Reverend Chad Middlebrooks officiating accompanied by military honors. Visitation was held from 5 until 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2023, at Phillips Funeral Home in Gilbertown, Alabama.
He was born Oct. 11, 1959, in Mobile to Carl Calvin Miller and Nora Kathleen Carlisle Miller Murphy. He passed away Monday, Jan. 2, at his residence in Mobile at the age of 63.
Mr. Miller was a member of Northside Bible Church. He worked for over 20 years in law enforcement as a police officer for the Chickasaw Police Department and the Alabama Marine Police. He was a United States Navy Veteran having served in the Persian Gulf War Operation Desert Storm. He was a master mason and member of 894 Chickasaw Lodge, Blue Lodge and Scottish Rite. He also served as a Jr. vice commandant of Jesse Andrews Jr. Det. #1378.
He is survived by his daughters, Bailey Christen Miller of Asheville, North Carolina, and Hannah Elizabeth Miller Tews (Nathan) of Daphne, Alabama; his granddaughter, Olivia Tews of Daphne, Alabama; and sister, Kathy Jean Miller Lott (Jean) of Semmes, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his father, Carl Calvin Miller, and mother, Nora Kathleen Carlisle Miller Murphy.
