The Alabama Football Coaches Association announced its winners of the Coach of the Year awards in each classification for the 2022 season Monday.

Trent Taylor, who will be inducted into the Alabama High School Hall of Fame in March, was named the 4A Coach of the Year. He coached Andalusia to the Class 4A title and led the Bulldogs to their third state championship in program history. It was his first title as a head coach after winning the championship as a senior in the 1977 season.

Taylor completed his 35th season in the AHSAA Super 7 last week at Auburn’s Jordan-Hare Stadium and led this year’s Andalusia team to a 14-1 record. His overall record stands at 267-146 with an 84-25 mark in eight seasons at the helm of the Bulldogs. He is 16th on the list of all-time wins in the state of Alabama following the 2022 season.

Each winner was nominated by a member of the ALFCA, recommended by a committee, and selected by a vote of the ALFCA board of directors. Each recipient will be honored at the ALFCA Coach of the Year luncheon on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2023, at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Montgomery. The winners will receive a Coach of the Year plaque as well as a Coach of the Year ring provided by Balfour.

Also honored were Meek’s Houston Powell (1A), B.B. Comer’s Adam Fossett (2A), Charles Henderson’s Quinn Hambrite (5A), Decatur’s Jere Adcock (6A) and Mary G. Montgomery’s Zach Golson (7A).

The Alabama Football Coaches Association (ALFCA) was established in 2005 in order to establish a voice for the coaches in Alabama. The Alabama Sports Writers Association will announce its coaches of the year later this month.

Taylor and his wife, Patty, have three grown children: Ryne (McKenzie), Tiffany (Austin), and Paige.
