With the Angel of Hope statue coming to Andalusia, organizers Carol and David Moore are holding a fundraiser and 5K race Saturday, Nov. 19, to help with expenses for the project.
The goal of this fundraiser for the Angel of Hope is to raise the money needed to erect the statue and garden in Robinson Park. It will serve as a place of reflection and remembrance for grieving family and friends who have been impacted by the loss of a child. The statue will be surrounded by engraved bricks placed in memory of children of our community.
The events will begin with a 5K run on Tisdale Street in Andalusia. There will also be Christmas vendors, arts and crafts, and food trucks from Smash Mouth Foods and Wheelhouse 2. Vendors also include boiled peanuts from Sweet South Market and desserts in a Sweet Shop booth. Hilltop Restaurant is pre-selling Boston butts for $35 each to be picked up the day of the fundraiser.
“We have over 35 talented vendors scheduled to attend. They will be offering a variety of handmade goods including original paintings, jewelry, wood crafts, t-shirts, women and children’s clothing, handbags, embroidery gifts, macramé, candles, cleaning supplies, jams and jellies, Christmas ornaments, and floral arrangements,” holiday market arts and crafts chairperson Lynn Starnes said.
There will be a food auction on the Angel of Hope for Covington County Facebook page Wednesday, Nov. 16, and Thursday, Nov. 17.
“Covington County has many talented bakers with generous hearts. Our online auction will have many delicious baked goods just in time for Thanksgiving. The auction begins Wednesday at 9 a.m. and ends on Thursday at noon. All auctioned goods will be available for pickup on Friday, Nov. 18, from 9 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. at Harold’s Home in Andalusia. Our Sweet Shop booth will be filled with more baked goods on Saturday, which is the day of the fundraiser. You can get everything from pound cakes to a single cookie, cupcake, muffin, or slice of cake,” online auction and baked goods chairperson Kelley Faulkner said.
