The Covington County Branch of the National Association of Colored People (NAACP) invites the public to its Officer Installation Service to be held on Friday, July 29, 2022, at 6 p.m. in the Will Coleman Richard Robertson Center, 901 C C Baker Avenue, Andalusia, AL 36420.

Mr. Bernard Simelton, President of the Alabama State Conference of the NAACP will perform the ceremonies.

The NAACP was formed in 1909 in New York City, NY by both Black and White activists in response to the Springfield riots in 1908 and to ongoing violence toward African Americans as well as to legal and societal injustices suffered by the same group. The NAACP’s mission is to ensure the political, educational, and equitable treatment of minority group citizens of the United States and to eliminate racial prejudice. The NAACP works to remove all barriers of racial discrimination through democratic processes.

The Covington County Branch of the NAACP was reorganized and recognized by the national organization in May 2021.

Current officers are Ms. Hazel M. Bryant, President, Mr. Joecephus Nix, 1st Vice President, Mr. Mack Hines, 2nd Vice President, Ms. Cindy Bass, Secretary, Dr. Steve Hubbard, Asst. Secretary, Mr. Jimmy B. Jackson, Treasurer, Mrs. Lorena Bryant, Asst. Treasurer.
