Karen Kay (Hughes) Greiner of Swinney Switch, Texas went to her heavenly home on March 5, 2022.
Karen was born in Grinnell, Iowa on Oct. 19, 1938, to Edward and Dorothy Hughes. She attended Pan Am Travel School in Omaha, Nebraska. She lived in New York and Chicago before marrying LeRoy Greiner in Grinnell on June 6, 1957.
In support of her husband’s military career, she raised her children while stationed in multiple locations across North America. Settling in south Texas, she developed meaningful relationships and a passion for gardening and her animals.
Karen was a devoted member of the Catholic Church and dedicated her time in charities and prayer.
She is survived by five children: Sonsi Shawn Gregory (Michelle), Mark, Randall (Deborah) Greiner, daughter Cynthia Brookshire, daughter Tracy Greiner, 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Dorothy Hughes, husband LeRoy Greiner, daughter Tracy Greiner, sister Linda Hays, granddaughter Amber Greiner, and son-in-law Joseph Brookshire.
A Rosary and Funeral Mass will be at St. George Catholic Church in George West, Texas Friday, March 11 at 10 a.m.
