Maddy Campbell and Preslie Powell became business partners and made two halves into a whole with the launch of The Pink Cow Boutique in downtown Andalusia.
The cousins met one day in the parking lot at Piggly Wiggly for lunch and started talking about opening a business doing something they both loved.
“We were thinking of ideas when starting a boutique came to us. We instantly loved the idea knowing it would never happen. That same day, we spoke to a few people asking them if they thought this was crazy or if it might work out. We received nothing but positive feedback, and within two weeks, we were doing our first vendor as ‘The Pink Cow.’ A month later, we started talking about how we wanted to open an actual store. We looked at a few places for rent when our landlord Hila Gatewood spoke to my dad. She let him know she had a building become available that day. We went and looked at it, and it was just perfect that we ended up signing the lease the next day,” Campbell said.
The Pink Cow had its first vendor last year Oct. 16 and opened its storefront Jan. 3, 2022. The store offers its customers a wide range of clothing styles with sizes ranging from small to 3X. “We have western, chic, casual, and dressy pieces. However, clothing is not all we have to offer here. We have everything from children’s clothing, home goods and drinkware, bath and body products, jewelry, accessories, and shoes. We are increasing our stock every week.”
Campbell and Powell each saw the importance of collaborating together for the business.
“Since the very first idea of this boutique, Preslie and I have tried our best to keep it as even as possible. From the name, design, and even up to the clothes hangers, we wanted to make sure we strive to half each idea. We have tried to make sure each other is 100 percent happy with each decision we have to make. When we can’t agree on something, we play a friendly game of Rock, Paper, Scissors.”
The Pink Cow got its name fairly quickly and was a collective effort from both women.
“When we started thinking of what to call our boutique, it only took us five minutes to figure it out. We started thinking of names that represented us. My favorite color is pink, and Preslie’s favorite animal is a cow. We basically said the name out loud at the same time, and it was just perfect,” Campbell said.
As with every business, the two cousins have discussed their aspirations for the business. “Our main goal for this business is that we continue to grow and progress while enjoying every second of our job. We hope each person who visits us or shops online through our website is pleased with his or her experience.”
The Pink Cow Boutique is located at 218 Church Street in Andalusia. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The business can be found on Facebook and Instagram under the same name.
