The 2021-22 basketball season got off to a roaring start at both Red Level and Pleasant Home earlier this week.
The Tigers made the trip to Monroeville and squared off with Monroe County on Monday. The RLS B-team (1-1) lost the first game before Red Level’s varsity girls (2-0) cruised to a 61-31 win over MCHS. The varsity boys (2-0) followed up night one with a hard-fought overtime win, 54-49.
Red Level commenced its home schedule Tuesday with a pair of dominating wins over Houston County. The Tigers routed the Lions 57-18 in girls’ action and 85-33 in the boys’ game. The B-team (1-1) edged HCHS, 23-21.
“The players are playing with intensity, but the season is early. We have to cut down on our turnovers and rebound better. The teams need to stay focused and not become complacent because there are many more games to be played. I would like to credit B-team coach Frank Tolbert and Assistant Coach Oleshia Anderson for their hard work,” RLS Head Coach Bridges Anderson said. “Tiger Nation, please come out and support these teams.”
The Eagles began their season with a three-game sweep of W.S. Neal at home Tuesday. The PHS B-team (1-0) took down the Blue Eagles 50-37. The varsity girls (1-0) shut down WSN with a strong defensive effort, 49-13 before the varsity boys (1-0) capped the night with a 68-55 win.
Both schools are back in action Friday, Nov. 19. Red Level makes the trip to Kinston while Pleasant Home visits Excel. Tip time is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
