After a 1-year absence, the Alabama High School Athletic Directors & Coaches Association is proud to return the Alabama All-Star Sports Week for its 25th year.

This year’s event will take place from Monday, July 19 through Friday, July 23 in Montgomery. The AHSAA cancelled the 2020 event due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Teams are comprised of 2022 rising seniors and were chosen by a special coaches committee from nominations received from AHSAA member school coaches. This year, four athletes and one coach will represent Covington County in the all-star games.

Ayden Amis of Andalusia will participate in the North-South All-Star Baseball Games on July 19. Ethan Cox of Opp was also selected to the South team but will be unable to play due to an injury. The 2019 baseball all-stars set several records two years ago as the South won both games of the doubleheader 16-7 and 18-16. The two teams combined for 57 runs scored and 41 hits. Both were all-star records in the event, which dates back to 1997. The North currently holds a 23-14-1 record in the series. First pitch at Riverwalk Stadium, home of the Montgomery Biscuits, is set for 4 p.m.

Hunter Baldwin of Pleasant Home will compete in the North-South All-Star Golf Match the same day. Golf and tennis were each added to the festivities for the first time in 2019. The North squad holds a 1-0 advantage after winning the inaugural match in both girls and boys. This year’s match will be held at the Arrowhead Country Club on July 19 beginning at 10 a.m.

Sharae Coleman of Florala will play in the North-South Basketball Game on July 20. The North won the last matchup 65-56 in 2019 and leads the overall series 20-3. The game was played for the first time in 1997. FHS coach Troy Turman will be one of the three coaches for the South boys’ basketball team. The South won the 2019 contest 88-75 but the North leads the series 48-29. The first all-star boys game took place in 1953. Both basketball games will be held at the Cramton Bowl Multiplex. The girls play at 5 p.m. and the boys follow at 6:45 p.m.
