Appaloosa Run is hosting a grand opening for its new 56 unit affordable housing apartments next week.

The complex will feature two-bedroom and three-bedroom units in three residential buildings, a clubhouse, fitness center and playground.

“Most people know we are part of Affordable housing,” Property manager Hope Fite said. “The two-bedroom units will cost $484 a month and our three-bedroom units will cost $583 a month. We offer all of the kitchen appliances, which are all stainless steel. We also offer a washer and dryer hookups, granite countertops, all laminate style floors and free laundry on site.”

Though COVID slowed things down a bit, Fite said they are excited to finally be open.

“Alabama Fair Housing is the one that is setting up all of the grand opening stuff,” Fite said. “They are doing it pretty big for all of the residents. We are glad to be able to offer this to our residents and the community in general.”

In January, Fite said they completely filled all of the leases for the apartments, but she encourages people to still apply for an apartment.

“I still get several phone calls a day asking for openings and I encourage people to still apply,” Fite said. “Even though there is a waiting list, a lot of individuals have found different housing or they may not even qualify to live on the property. We do a background check and that is just to make sure that everybody is safe. We do offer a security system with our cameras just for our residents’ safety. Though you may be way down on the waiting list, doesn’t mean that you don’t have a chance.”

With Affordable Housing, Fite said Appaloosa Run offers a chance for nice housing for people who may not be able to afford it.

“We have really, really nice amenities,” Fite said. “The apartments have gone above and beyond with what they have put into these apartments. I think Affordable Housing is so important for Andalusia because it offers an opportunity to individuals who may not be able to afford things like granite countertops or different things of that nature. This is something that we can give them.”

The grand opening for Appaloosa Run is scheduled for Wed., May 19, at 11 a.m. It is located on Shreve Road behind Ireland Trailers.
