On Friday, April 09, 2021 around 10:19 a.m., Opp Fire Department along with Opp Police Department officers and investigators were dispatched to the 100 Block of Hillcrest Drive in reference to a residence bedroom being set on fire by an individual. When officers arrived at the location the suspect was located just down the road walking. The suspect was detained and transported to the Police Department for questioning.

Opp Fire along with the State Fire Marshal’s Office assisted Opp Police Department in determining the cause of the fire.

It was determined the fire was set intentionally while other individuals were inside the residence. The suspect, Zackery Taylor Kendrick, a 23 year-old male of Opp, was arrested and charged with Arson first. Kendrick is currently being held in the Covington County Jail on a $150,000 bond.
