After trying to hire for his business, Little Caesars and Tropical Smoothie owner Skip Enzor noticed several other businesses in Andalusia are also struggling to find a workforce.
Enzor searched relentlessly through Facebook to find job openings to help jobless citizens in Andalusia find a place to work.
“I needed to hire some people here at Tropical Smoothie and Little Caesars,” Enzor said. “After posting it, I scrolled past four other people looking for help. When I saw that, I knew it was going to be a struggle trying to find people to hire with so many other people trying to, as well.”
After posting a Facebook status about the workforce in Andalusia, several people commented saying they were in search of jobs or people stating that people did not want to work.
Below is the original Facebook post from Enzor:
“Workforce in Andalusia has dried up it seems. So many people want great things to come to our town like retail and new dining establishments. But I can tell you right now our workforce here either can’t handle it or doesn’t want to.
That being said if you are in need of a job I can literally turn you onto about 10 of them off the top of my head just from scrolling past desperate business owners and managers posting on Facebook. Our businesses included.
I remember turning 15 and being told it was time to find a job. Pushing carts at a grocery store wasn’t my first choice but I did it the best I could till I found a better opportunity. If you have teens send them out into the real world with a good attitude, I promise it will help them in the long run just as much as school.
Rant concluded.”
Not only did Enzor include job openings, but he also wanted to let teenagers know what exactly to do to get noticed by a hiring manager.
“I wanted younger kids to know exactly what a hiring manager is looking for, from a hiring manager,” Enzor said. “I wanted to tell them, ‘This is how you get called back for at least an interview,’ then after that, you’re on your own. The problem is parents tell these kids to get a job, but don’t tell them how. They just say to turn in applications. I have had several parents say, ‘My son has turned in 10 applications and hasn’t gotten any calls back.’ I don’t think the parents realize that it’s been so long since they have searched for that first job, which is why I wanted to give some information about first impressions and turning in an application in person.”
After coming up with 60+ job openings, Enzor said he started thinking about how people want new things to come to the city.
“If we don’t show other businesses that we can survive, then they are not going to come here,” Enzor said. “We have to take care and build the businesses that we have here before we can bring in more. Especially if these fast food places are going to stop dropping because of the lack of workforce, we are going to scare people away. We are lucky that only Milky Moos has dropped off.”
Enzor said knew something had to be done and he said if he even helped five people get a job then he knew he was on the right track.
“I am happy that I posted that status on Facebook,” Enzor said. “I’m just trying to spread positivity. If I got five people jobs then I accomplished something.”
