Because of the potential for severe weather, the City of Andalusia will open a storm shelter in the safe room at Andalusia Junior High School beginning at 7 p.m. Wed., March 17, and remaining open until 7 a.m. on Thurs., March 18.
The school is located at 701 Third Avenue. Anyone who chooses to seek shelter there should enter the door to the left of the front door.
The city will staff the shelter, but will not provide cots, pillows or food. Masks will be required, in accordance with recommendations from the Alabama Department of Public Health.
Covington County EMA Director Susan Harris advises that Covington County will see the most impacts from the weather system moving through the Southeast between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. Anyone who feels they might need to seek shelter should move to AJHS or other safe spaces well ahead of the storm, she said.
