The Red Level Elementary School Honor Society decided to send signs of appreciation to the employees of Andalusia Health for Random Acts of Kindness Week.
RLES counselor Victoria Adams said the students wanted to make the signs because they knew how hard the employees have been working during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“A lot of the signs had ‘You’re our hero’ on it or ‘You’re awesome,’” Adams said. “We set up a time with Hayden Raines at the hospital to get the workers outside so the students could clap for them and deliver the signs. The kids just know how much the employees are working during the COVID pandemic.”
Mya Thompson a sixth-grader at RLES said, “It felt amazing to cheer on our local healthcare heroes.”
A few teachers were in on the delivery, as well, including Mrs. Griffin, Ms. Riddle and Ms. Bush.
“We all talked to the kids and explained to them what some of the challenges that people have faced during this pandemic,” Adams said. “The kids thought that it would be a good idea to make those signs and go out to cheer on the healthcare workers.”
Sixth-grader Caroline Blackwell said, “I loved cheering on the hospital workers because they do so much for us and our community to keep us safe.”
Bella Griffin another sixth-grader at RLES said, “It felt awesome to recognize the healthcare heroes with signs and treats.”
Now, the signs line the hallways of the hospital.
