The Andalusia City Council approved Monday the purchase of vehicles for three departments.

The council approved the low bid from Andalusia Ford allowing the police and fire departments to move forward on purchasing a total of six new vehicles: three Ford Explorers and an F150 for the police department and two F150s for the fire department.

Also approved was the purchase of three F150s for Leisure Services. Those three will be purchased from the state bid list.

The total costs for all the vehicles was approximately $275,000.

Other items discussed by the council included the following.

• Approved moving forward with providing $32,000 as a loan to the South Alabama Regional Airport. The funds provided by the city will allow for the purchase of a building situated on airport property. Once purchased, a new tenant will lease the building from the airport. Other groups, including the Covington County Commission, City of Opp, and the Covington County Economic Development Commission, are also providing funds for the purchase.
• Approved a list of surplus equipment for the Public Works Department. Mayor Earl Johnson said the document is an update of past agreements.
• Approved a contract agreement with the Andalusia Utility Board.
• Approved an ABC liquor license for a restaurant planning to move into a building formerly home to Beef O’Brady’s.

The city council meets the first and third Tuesdays of each month at 6 p.m. at city hall. A work session precedes the meeting at 5:30 p.m.
