According to a statement posted on the Andalusia Milky Moo’s Facebook page, the ice cream shop is closing its doors for good.

“We can all agree that 2020 was a difficult year for businesses, families, friends, and everyone in between,” The statement said. “Unfortunately, as the year draws to a close, so will Milky Moo’s of Andalusia permanently. We are so thankful for every customer that came through our doors, and we will miss serving each and every one of you. We hope to continue serving you in our Enterprise and Ozark locations. We hope this new year brings joy and prosperity to everyone.”

The restaurant opened its doors in the Timmerman building in 2018. The city acquired the building, also known as the First National Bank building, about Jan. 1, 2017.

Before Milky Moo’s the Timmerman building was empty for almost 30 years.

“We regret that Milky Moo’s became yet another victim of the pandemic,” Andalusia Mayor Earl Johnson said. “As evidenced by the social media response to their announcement that they were closing, we weren’t the only ones who enjoyed their ice cream.”

Though the city is losing a business, Johnson said they have several people interested in filling the space. 

“We are always sorry to see a business go,” Johnson said. “However, we have had several parties interested in redeveloping all of that building,  and we will continue to work with them to see that this historic landmark in our downtown is preserved.”
