St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, in cooperation with other churches, supporters and volunteers, will again provide a free meal to anyone who needs it or is alone this Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 26.

Jan Morris, who organizes the project, said volunteers are preparing food for 500 people.

The holiday dinners served at Thanksgiving and Christmas are named Jo’s Community Dinners in memory of Jo Mosdell, who started the tradition. As awareness of the dinner has grown, so has the number of meals.

Because of the pandemic, there will be no dine-in option this year, Morris said. Meals will be delivered, or can be picked up at the door of St. Mary’s Parish Hall.

“We are still asking people to call and make reservations,” Morris said. “We will deliver to those who need deliveries and have lunches available for pick-up for those who prefer that option.”

The only stipulation is that those who need their meals delivered should call by noon on Wednesday, November 25. For more information, call 222-2487. Callers are asked to leave a message if no one answers.

Take-out meals will be served from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the Parish Hall, located at 1307 E. Three Notch St.

The organizers also depend upon the help of numerous volunteers, Morris said. This year, they are asking those interested in volunteering to call the church office at 222-2487. Assignments will be made to allow social distancing during preparation and delivery.
