Red Level School’s veteran’s day celebration looks a little different this year, but that isn’t stopping the students from supporting local veterans. In lieu of the annual veteran’s day assembly, RLS is hosting a veteran’s day parade on Fri., Nov. 13, as well as a video of appreciation for local veterans. Tori Adams said there is still time for students to send in photos of their loved ones for the video.

Last year’s wall of honor mimicked an actual brick wall that was on display during the veteran’s day assembly. Due to the assembly being canceled, the wall of honor is going virtual, Adams said.

“Last year people turned in photos and sent in information of their loved ones and friends in the community and we created a literal wall with each one on a brick,” Adams said. “Since we couldn’t do that this year we thought we would recreate a virtual presentation.”

The virtual presentation will be sent to all elementary and high school students on Veteran’s Day, Adams said. The deadline to submit photos and information for the virtual presentation is Tues., Nov. 10.

“We are not having an assembly this year, but we will send them out to the students and the presentation will be posted on both the elementary and high school facebook pages where everyone can share,” Adams said. “We’ve had several so far, so it looks like it will be comparable to our actual physical wall that we did before. Our third graders are working on a song they are going to add to the presentation.”

The Veteran’s Day parade will be on Fri., Nov. 13 at 8:30 a.m. on Barrow Road in Red Level. The parade will end at Fairmount Baptist Church where the RLS Fellowship of Christian Students is hosting a breakfast for veterans immediately following the parade.

“This is a collaborative effort. Jamie Snider is responsible for putting all of this together, I’m just helping. We are working to honor our veterans even though we can’t have them on campus,” Adams said. “We’re going to have a parade and we are asking all of the veterans to participate so the kids can recognize them. The kids have flags and posters and they want to honor them and their service.”
