The Andalusia Area Chamber of Commerce held its signature golf tournament, The Chamber Classic this week on the beautiful 18-hole course at the Andalusia Country Club.   

35 teams representing a variety of businesses and industries in the Chamber membership enjoyed a friendly competitive round of golf, a “Ball Drop”, a putting contest, lunch and several opportunities to win great prizes from area businesses. 

First place in the Top Flight of the tournament went to PowerSouth Energy Cooperative, turning in a low score of 53, earning them the title of “Chamber Champions”.  Coming in second, CCB Community Bank shot a 58.  In the “Andalusia Elite” Flight, Huhtamaki’s team came in first place with a low score of 62, followed by Southeast Gas with a close 2nd place score of 63.  Individual winners in the tournament were Alex Short who “let the big dog loose” in the Andalusia Animal Clinic’s longest drive competition; Daniel Wells who’s near hole-in-one on #5 secured his win for the Scout and Cellar closest to the pin competition, Sonny Maynor who took the top prize in the SEC Kubota Ball Drop, and Chase Shelnutt, finalist in the All In Credit Union putting contest, who narrowly missed a 50ft putt that would have secured a trip for 2 to the 2021 Masters. 

The Chamber took extra precautions this year due to COVID-19. The COVID-19 “Rules of Golf” were adhered to, golf carts were wiped down and stocked with hand-sanitizer, pre-packaged grab-and-go lunches were served, extra carts were available, face coverings were provided to every golfer, and sanitation stations were located in the common areas. 

Funds raised at this tournament help cover the cost of educational scholarships and opportunities, relocation and recruitment materials, and many community programs and events throughout the year. 

Chrissie Duffy, Executive Director of the Andalusia Area Chamber of Commerce stated, “This fundraiser is vital to our Chamber’s program of work, and on behalf of the Board of Directors, we sincerely express our appreciation to all of our members for your generosity and support of our Chamber and also countless other community organizations and programs, especially in these most precarious of times. Even amid the continuous wake of COVID-19, this was the most successful tournament we have had in the 15 years we have hosted the tournament.  As we plan our budget for the upcoming year, we look forward to further generating business opportunities and initiating programs and services that enhance the quality of life for the residents of Andalusia and Covington County.”
