LBW Community College held its commencement ceremony on Thursday where 90+ students were able to walk the stage that graduated in the spring.

The college postponed their original ceremony in May due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It is very important that we recognize our students’ achievements,” Public Information Officer and Director of Marketing Maggie Jones said. “They have worked really hard and have gone through some unprecedented times for sure. I’m so glad that we had the opportunity to reorganize it, although it isn’t the same traditional ceremony, we are still able to recognize them for all of their accomplishments.”

The students were allotted times where they were to show up to the college, while wearing masks. Only one family at a time was admitted into the Martha Solon Dixon Performing Arts Center and the student would walk across the stage and take a picture with Dr. Brian Cox, president of LBW.

“I think it has been great,” Jones said. “We have been able to follow all of the guidelines and the students are all excited for the opportunity to walk across the stage.”

All students were given the chance to register for the commencement ceremony and 95 students decided to walk.

“Jason Jessie sent out an email to request who all wanted to participate,” Jones said. “From there, they did a registration where they filled out there time slots and he organized it that way. I was glad about how many turned out for the ceremony.”
