The 2020 Covington Region Honor Flight has be canceled due to COVID-19 concerns.

Initially, the flight was scheduled for April, but organizers were forced to push the flight back to October after leaders of the national organization canceled trips through September.

Late last week, the national organization agreed to suspend trips for the rest of the year.

Honor Flight takes veterans of World War II, Korea and Vietnam to Washington, D.C., for the day, to see the World War II, Korea and Vietnam memorials, see the Changing of the Guard at Arlington National Cemetery and other sites.

The program is free of charge to veterans.

“We are disappointed that we are not able to take this trip this year,” said chairperson Kendra Majors. “We always enjoy the day and the culmination of hard work on this day. We plan to reschedule the trip most likely in the fall of 2021. While we are disappointed, we always want to put the safety of our participants first above all else. Please stay tuned for more updates as we all continue to sort out all things associated with COVID-19.”

Veterans and guardians who had signed up for the trip will soon receive a letter in the mail with additional information.
