A Covington County woman was granted parole during Tuesday’s parole hearings, according to the Department of Pardons and Parole.

Terry Abbott of Pardons and Parole said Stokes is serving a 32-month prison sentence for possession and receipt of a controlled substance, a class D felony.

The case is from 2016 but she was sentenced on May 5, 2019.

She has served as of today 11 months, 29 days of the 32-month sentence.

Abbott said that there are additional Covington County convictees up for parole in the coming weeks:

• Cornelius James Marshall will have a parole hearing on Feb. 12.

Abbott said he is serving a 100-month sentence for first-degree theft of property and possession of marijuana. Both convictions were in Covington County on Oct. 19, 2018. He has served one year, four months of that 100-month sentence. He was sentenced in 2013 to five years for a credit card fraud case from 2010 and a first-degree theft of property case from 2011. He served only one year, nine months of that five-year sentence before he was released.

• On Feb. 13, Jonathan Buxton will have a parole hearing. He was convicted of distribution of controlled substances a total seven times across 1992, 1994, 1995 and 1996 in Covington County. He was sentenced to 30 years for one of the 1996 convictions. Buxton was subsequently paroled but he violated parole in both 2017 and 2018 and was sent back to prison. He has served 23 years, three months of the 30-year sentence.

• On Feb. 13, for Amanda Ann Jacobs. She has been convicted of four crimes in Covington County. She is currently serving a 15-year sentence for possession of a controlled substance and has served two years, two months of the sentence. She was originally convicted of that crime in 2003 and sentenced to only nine-months in prison, but in 2018 she was resentenced for that crime to 15 years. She was also sentenced in 2003 to nine months for two other counts of drug possession and one conviction for second-degree receiving stolen property, all in Covington County. She served just under three months of the nine-month sentence before she was released from prison. In 2018, she was convicted of first-degree theft of property in Butler County and sentenced to 18 months. That was three months after she was re-sentenced to 15 years for the Covington County drug case.
