Seven roads still closed, more rain coming

 

Seven roads in Covington County remain closed this morning.

Covington County Engineer Lynn Rawls said Tuesday morning that you can draw a line from Pleasant Home to Dozier and to the north and west is where county road crews are finding issues with roads.

“We received anywhere from 4 to 9 inches in places,” he said. “We have received calls on how bad the roads are.”

Rawls said the wanted to make sure that the community understands that it could take a while for his crews to complete the needed work to get the roads back to where the need to be.

Tuesday morning road crews were surveying bridges in the county as well.

Rawls said there was pretty good bit of damage to the roads and ditches, especially with stopped up drains.

“This has become a normal December/ January event,” he said.

Rawls is compiling data, along with others in Covington County, to submit to EMA Director Susan Harris, who will submit later this week to FEMA to see with the county qualifies for assistance.

Rawls said he wasn’t sure if the county will meet the threshold.

With more rain in the forecast, it will slow the repair time.

Roads that are closed include:

• Bass Bridge Road – from Wiggins Farm Road to the end of the pavement;

• Pine Ridge Road – entire dirt road is closed;

• Grider Mock Road – from Ray Armstrong Road to County Road 7;

• Grider Mock Road – from Plywood Mill Road to Zell Ready Road;

• Josey Road – Entire Road is closed;

• Zell Ready Road – from Grider Mock Road to Hutto Road;

• Bass Road – from Boggan Level Road to Open Pond Road – water over road.
