The City of Andalusia officially cut the ribbon and opened Candyland yesterday morning, as several Andalusia Elementary School students were the first to enjoy the cottages and attractions.

Several city employees are working numerous hours to make sure that Candyland is completely setup and ready to go when it opens to the public this Friday.

“Right now, the lights are up,” Andalusia Area Chamber of Commerce director Chrissie Duffy said. “There are still some workers going around and fixing the lights, but everything is pretty much set up.”

Duffy said that the ribbon cutting was emotional for her because it is the moment where all of the hard work and a vision becomes reality.

“Today we bring an idea and a vision into reality,” Duffy said. “It is overwhelming honestly. I actually teared up a few minutes ago. Everybody works so hard and when I say everybody, there are just so many moving hands and moving parts and we all have sore backs and cut up fingers. Just to see the little children come out and enjoy all of this hard work, it is very rewarding.”
