Flomaton defeats Opp in First Round

The Bobcats’ 2019 season came to an end tonight in Flomaton at the hands of the defending 3A state champions.

Flomaton dominated the gridiron in the first half against the Bobcats, putting up 36 points to Opp’s 7.

Flomaton got on the board quickly after it kicked an onside kick and recovered it at the Opp 45-yard line.

Three plays later, Flomaton scored on a 40-yard touchdown run, putting the Hurricanes up 6-0.

On the Bobcats’ first possession, the Hurricane defense forced Opp to a 4-and-2 situation, the Bobcats went for a fake, but it wasn’t enough for the first down.

Flomaton took over on downs.

The Hurricanes made their way down the field with X Franklin scoring.

The two-point conversion was no good.

Hurricanes were up 12-0.

Opp had its second possession as Tanner Hall recovered the kick.

Quarterback Hal Smithart was intercepted and Nicholas Turner scored a 46- yard return, putting the Hurricanes up 20-0 after a successful two-point conversion.

The Bobcats finally got on the board when Smithart hit DaDa Stoudemire on a 50-yard touchdown pass. The PAT was good, making the score 20-7, which was the end of the first quarter score.

In the second quarter, Flomaton struck again putting six more on the board, with a successful two-point conversion, making it 28-7.

Flomaton’s Elijah Dunsford scored to make the score 34-7 and Franklin had a successful two-point conversion, making it 36-7.

In the second half, Troy commit De’Quan Johnson put six more on the board and Franklin’s two-point conversion was good, making it 44-7.

Opp got their second touchdown of the night in the fourth quarter when Smithart hit Lane Ballard on a 76-yard TD pass and Dakota Cornelius’s second PAT of the night was good, making it 44-14.

Flomaton answered with 50-plus yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

The Hurricanes’ two-point conversion was good with 11:30 left in the game, they went up 52-14.

Smithart hit Patel for a 20-yard touchdown, making the score 52-20.

  1. Cornelius hit the PAT, making the score 52-21 with a little more than five minutes left in the game.

Flomaton fumbled the ball, and was recovered by Emilio Skanes.

On a fourth-and-one, Smithart’s pass was intercepted for a pick six for a 92-yard interception return for Flomaton, making the score 58-21.

Flomaton took a knee with 2:10 left in the game rather than go for the two-point conversion.

Opp scored with less than two minutes left and the point after was good, making it 52-28.

The Bobcats finished the season 4-7 with wins over Straughn, Houston Academy, Wicksburg and Slocomb.
