Red Level and Mobile Christian split area wins Friday night in a doubleheader in Red Level.

The Tigers won the first game 5-4 and the Leopards won the second game, 10-2.

Mobile Christian 4

Down 4-3 in the sixth inning, Red Level’s Troy Nolen knocked a two-run double into left field to bring in Michael Norman and Cale Nolen to bring his team to five runs and the win over Mobile Christian in the first game.

The Tigers (6-4, 1-2 in Class 2A, Area 1) scored one run in the first inning on a pop fly from Kyle Nolen and then again in the second inning when Jordan Walker hit a one-run single to bring in Nathan Jones.

Before Nolen’s two-run double in the sixth, Jones scored on a passed ball.

Red Level coach Tony Ingram said it was a flip-flop kind of night.

“It was Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde I guess,” Ingram said. “We battled the first game and came back when we were down.”

Mobile Christian scored one run in the first inning, two in the second and one in the sixth.

The leading hitters for Red Level were Cale Nolen, Troy Nolen, Matthew Bond and Michael Norman.

Cale Nolen was 2-for-4with one RBI; Troy Nolen was 2-for-4 with one double and two RBIs; Bond was 2-for-4 with one single and one double; and Norman was 2-for-4 with one single and one double.

Mobile Christian 10,

Red Level 2

The Leopards got out early in the second game and went up four runs at the end of the first inning.

They scored one run in the second inning and three runs in the third.

Red Level got on board in the fifth inning with two runs.

Mobile Christian ended its night with two additional runs in the seventh inning.

Ingram said things to work on mainly revolve around the plate.

“We’ve got to work on our approach at the plate,” Ingram said. “I think we’re very timid at the plate and I think we’re worried too much about striking out. We’ve got to take the approach at the plate that we can hit every pitch. If it’s not the pitch we want, than we’re not going to hit the ball.”

On Tuesday, Red Level played Pleasant Home in the second game of two and won, 13-10.

Ingram said of that game that it was kind of a “Groundhog Day” affect on the team.

“We jumped up 4-0 and then we relaxed (like we did in the second game Friday night),” he said. “And then the next thing we know they were up 6-4 in the top of the seventh. It’s kind of déj vu. Pleasant Home is scrappy, they fought us. We ain’t quitting and we’re going to get better.”

Red Level will play Florala on Monday. Junior varsity starts at 4 p.m.

In softball action for Red Level Friday night, the varsity team lost to Brantley, 10-0 while the junior varsity team lost 6-1.
