The No. 6-ranked Andalusia Bulldogs ready to take on the No. 1-ranked UMS-Wright Bulldogs tonight in Mobile.
“This is obviously the first region game so that puts a little more on us,” Andalusia head coach Trent Taylor said. “But they are all big games.”
Taylor said they have had a good week of practice.
“We have a had a good week of practice,” Taylor said. “With games like this at this point, you don’t have to remind them who they are playing. They know and they have a great deal of respect for UMS. I’d like to think UMS holds us in the same regard. Last year, it was probably the two worst games that we played against them. First game in the regular season we just couldn’t generate any offense and it was still a low scoring game. I think we played really well on defense that night. In the semifinals we gave up a touchdown right before half on a long pass and that kind of sealed the deal.”
UMS-Wright holds a 16-1 record over Andalusia.
The teams met twice last year with UMS-Wright winning the regular season game 17-0 and then won in the fourth round of the playoffs 24-3.
It was the second time in two years that Andalusia and UMS-Wright played each other in the fourth round.
Taylor said it’s always key to keep improving.
“Right now, you are doing the same things week in and week out,” Taylor said. “That is your trying to make sure every time you are stepping out on the field that you are improving. That sounds very cliche. I know it does and to young people that might sound corny, but the truth of the matter is that is what your goals are. At the end of the day, how much better are we getting?”
Andalusia has been dealing with some injuries and have had to move players to other positions, Taylor said.
“We’ve had to shuffle some guys around due to some injuries and stuff like that,” Taylor said. “That’s football at any level. High school is a little different because you might not be looking at, ‘Who is our second stringer?’ You are looking at who is a guy at another position and then we might have to find someone for that position.”
Andalusia and UMS-Wright will kickoff tonight at 7 p.m.
