Two Andalusia sisters were injured Tuesday afternoon in an ATV accident.

The girls – identified as Shelbee and Natalie Matthews – each suffered extensive injuries.

Preliminary reports indicate that the accident occurred at a home on Pond Creek Road in the late afternoon hours.

Law enforcement confirmed the two were transferred by private vehicle to Andalusia Regional Hospital, but no official police report was filed.

Shelbee was later transferred to a Birmingham hospital, where she underwent surgery on an arm, hand and leg. Reports indicate the injuries were not life threatening; however, they will require extensive surgery.

Her older sister, Natalie, remained at ARH, where she underwent surgery Tuesday night to remove debris from her wounds.
