Former Andalusia City Schools superintendent Pete Kelley will be inducted into the Wiregrass Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday night.

Before hanging up coaching and moving to Andalusia to go into administration, Kelley as a top-notch basketball coach at Kinston High School.

Kelley took the Bulldogs to three-straight state tournaments including winning the 1981 state championship.

During his 14 years at Kinston, Kelley had just one losing season and won five straight Southeast Alabama Conference titles.

Kinston averaged 19 wins a year during Kelley’s time at the helm of the Bulldogs.

He was named Class 1A Coach of the Year in 1979 and 1981 and he won five conference Coach of the Year awards.

Before becoming a coach, Kelley was a standout basket and baseball player at Straughn High School.

He was the first player from Straughn to sign a college scholarship.

He was the first player to sign to play with Enterprise State and was a part of the first ever Boll Weevil teams.

Kelley earned all conference honors in both seasons with the Boll Weevils.

Kelley took two years off from college after finishing at Enterprise.

Kelley went into the U.S. Army and served one year in the Vietnam War.

He was awarded two Bronze Stars during his time of service.

After leaving the army, the Kelley went back to school at Troy University where he earned his degree.
