Popeyes is coming to Andalusia.

The Andalusia City Council approved a five-year, 2 percent sales tax rebate to help offset the cost of bringing the fast food restaurant here.

City Council Pro Tem Terry Powell said the business would invest more than $1 million in building the restaurant and would hire an estimated 60 employees.

“This is consistent with the guidelines set for other businesses,” Powell said.

Mary King and Pete Mirando were present from Premier Cajun Kings, who will bring the New Orleans menu to Andalusia.

The duo said the restaurant will be located at the corner of Dunson Street and the bypass next door to Little Caesars.

According to the Popeyes website, the company distinguishes itself with a unique New Orleans style menu featuring spicy chicken, chicken tenders, fried shrimp and other regional items.

It is one of the largest quick-service restaurant chicken concepts in the world with more than 2,600 restaurants throughout the world.

Premier Cajun Kings is unsure exactly when construction will begin on the new restaurant.

Powell said that the company will not only partner with the city but also with the schools.

“They will be good community citizens,” he said.
