Stolen goods found on farm, several cases solved

A Paxton man has been charged with burglary, theft of property in the first degree, breaking and entering a vehicle and felony criminal mischief in an investigation that is expected to solve several burglaries, Sheriff Blake Turman said Tuesday.

“The investigation is long from over, but it is headed in the right direction,“ Turman said.

The county’s investigation began May 9, when a victim in the Florala area had more than $55,000 in merchandise stolen.

Investigators identified Hunter Halver Brown, age 34, as a suspect, and learned that he stored stolen property at his residence located at 519 Davis Road in the Paxton community.

On Monday, May 20, 2019, Covington County investigators submitted a search warrant to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office for Brown’s address and the surrounding acreage. With the assistance of the Walton County Sheriff’s Office, Special Response Team, a search warrant was executed on the Brown family farm. 

Investigators located an abundance of stolen property from the Tri-County area. Investigators also located stolen firearms and power tools.

The investigation resulted in an arrest warrant being issued for Brown in Covington County for burglary, theft of property in the first degree, breaking and entering a vehicle and felony criminal mischief.

Turman said Covington County investigators have worked non-stop for more than a week to bring this investigation together. Currently the investigation is ongoing and more stolen property from the tri-county area has been recovered from several locations.
