Today’s column will be a continuation of the Floyd family lineage presented in last week’s narrative. The generations had been brought down to David Andrew Floyd II and Mary Magdalene (Reagor) who were the parents of Anthony Floyd. Anthony was born in 1816 and died in 1871, and was married to Mariah H. Womack (1818-1886), daughter of Michael Womack (1794-1851) and Sarah Jones.

Anthony and Mariah H. Floyd settled and made their home in the Corinth community of Howard County, Ark. They were the parents of the following children:  James Hicks, b. 1839, d. 1850; David Samuel “D.S.” Sr., b. 1840, d. 1910, m. Louisa Jane Roberson; and Charles A., b. 1841, d. during War Between the States; Anthony Reagor “Dutch,” b. 1843, d. 1917, m. Mary Jane McClure. The young children were born in Bedford County, Tenn., and came with their parents on the wagon train of 45 families to Arkansas circa 1849. A few years after settling there, both of the parents died and were buried in the Old Corinth Cemetery.

David Samuel enlisted in the 1st. Arkansas Cavalry for service in the Confederate Army. He and his wife, Louisa Jane Roberson, daughter of Benjamin and Nancy (Messer) Roberson, were the parents of the following children: James Reagor “Jim,” b. 1860, d. 1942, m. !880 Martha Frances Hale, daughter of W.C. Hale; David Samuel “Sam” Jr., b. 1864, d.1936 m. Willie Ann Tollerson; Sarah M., b. 1867, d. 1870; Julia Elizabeth, b. 1870, d. 1912, m. James Wylie Westbrook; Anthony “Tony,” b. 1872, d. 1955, m. Grace Elizabell “Gracie” Cole; Benjamin, b. 1874, d. 1925, m. Ethel Hensler; Charles Wesley “Charley,” b. 1877, d. 1956, m. Eliza Huddleston; and Fardonia, b. 1879, d. 1800. Some other family trees list a Pierce, m. Sam Vaden; and a Maggie.

Charles A. Floyd also enlisted in the Confederate Army and served in the 19th. Arkansas Infantry as a 2nd. Lt. Field and Staff. He lost his life during the war on May 30, 1862. His remains were later moved to the Old Corinth Cemetery near those of his relatives. Charles had not yet married.

For some reason, Anthony Reagor “Dutch” Floyd seems to have escaped serving in the war, but that is undocumented. He was married to Mary Jane McClure (1844-1920), daughter of Thomas McClure and Marjorie M. Dickson. Dutch and Mary Jane Floyd were the parents of the following children: Sarah Isabella, b. 1865, d. 1907, m. James “Jim” Clardy (1862-1939); Charlie Newman, b. 1867, d. 1903, m. Zenobia Carolyn Henry (1864-1936); Henrietta, b. 1868, d. 1905, m. Preston Reese; Thomas Anthony, b. 1871, m. (1) 1893 Mattie Henry (2) ?; David Samuel, b. 1871, d. 1948, m. (1) 1894 Betty Jones (2) Mrs. Effie Olivia (Williams) Power; Calvin Reagor, b. 1872, d. 1924, m. Sally Dyer;  Elijah Michael “Mike,” b. 1874, d. 1943, m. Mary Bell “Mamie” Jacques (1878-1955); Robert E. Lee, b. 1875, m. Lela Reese; John Butler, b. 1877, d. 1950, m. (1) Lou Johns (2) Maggie Flint; Willie H., b. 1880, d. 1881, and Marjorie Snow, b. 1885, m. 1907 Thomas J. “Boss” Jacques.

The oldest daughter, Sarah Isabella Floyd, was married to James “Jim” Clardy (1862-1939). They were the parents of the following children: Janie, m. To Gary (1885-1955); Mason, m. Annie Hill; Kate, d. 1953, m. 1902 H. Pickens Chesshir (1876-1931); Pearl Reese, b. 1888, m. 1907 Rex Woodruff (1886-1945); Effie, b. 1891, m. George Gallaher (1873-1953); Annie, b. 1893, m. Paul Jacques (1885-1950); Nell, m. Hal Shannon; and Anthony Floyd, b. 1901, m. Ella Corn Gammill.

The second daughter, Henrietta Floyd, was married to Preston Reese. They were the parents of the following children: Willie Waldon, b. 1887, m. Dorothy Smith; Mary, b. 1889, m. Calvin Paxon; Dr. Kellis C., b. 1892, m. 1924 Elizabeth Brown; Hawkins “Dutch,” b. 1893, m. Mamie Spurgeon; Homer S., b. 1895, m. Edna Lyday; Florence, m. Jack Scott; John Preston, b. 1900; Kelsey Threlheld, b. 1902, d. 1903; and Henrietta, b. 1909, m. Dr. Mack Nelson.

The son, David Samuel “Sam” Floyd, was a farmer and held other jobs in the Center Point and Nashville communities. At his death, he was buried in the Nashville Cemetery. He was married twice, first in 1894 to Margery Elizabeth “Betty” Jones, daughter of Thomas Louis Jones (1851-1947) and Arabella Assula “Sudie” Vaughn (1856-1892). They were the parents of the following children: Muse Hawkins, b. 1895, d. 1965, m. Addie Samuels; Florence, b. 1898, d. 1979, m. 1919 Charles Decatur Bacon (1884-1933); Opal Sudie, b. 1900, d. 1964, m. Romeleus M. Stuart; Reagor Jones, b. 1903, d. 1976, m. 1929 Pearly Ella Pate; Clyde Richard “Kern,” b. 1905, d. 1971, m. 1931 Gertha Elkins; and Mary Lina, b. 1908, m. 1923 Johnny M. Martindale (1901-1998).

After Betty’s death in 1910, David Sam Floyd was married second to Mrs. Effie Olivia (Williams) Power, widow of Joe Power and daughter of Charles Ferguson Williams (1830-1903) and Sarah Elizabeth Neal. They resided in Nashville and were the parents of the following children: Carlton William, b. 1913, m. 1945 Jane Stephenson; David Samuel Jr. “D.S.,” b. 1916, d. 1988, m. 1943 Ruth Chamberlain; Vivian Frances, b. 1918, m. 1936 Lewis Tollett; Ruthel, b. 1921, d. 2006, single; and Dorothy Louise, b. 1924, d. 2012, m. Leslie “Les” Imler. Added to the family were the three children of Effie Williams Power by her first husband, Joe Power: Charles J., b. 1904; Remmel W., b. 1907; and Iva May, b. 1909, m. ? McAdams.

Another son, Elijah Michael “Mike,” Floyd, was married to Mary Bell “Mamie” Jacques (1878-1955). They were the parents if three children: Charlene, b. 1903, m. D. Hardie Womack (b. 1894); Kelsie, b. 1906, m. Lillian Chesshir; and Elijah Michael “Mike” Jr., m. Eloise Graves.

The son, Calvin Reagor Floyd, and his wife, Sally Dyer, had a daughter, b.&d. 1914. The son, John Butler Floyd, born in 1877, was first married to Lou Johns. They were the parents of three children: Birdie L., m. ? Ferguson; Charles “Dood,” m. Jack Hendrix; and Johnny Lou, m. Mr. Waits. John was married second to Maggie Flint, and they had one child, David Floyd. It is not known if the other sons, Robert E. Lee and William H. “Willie,” had any children.

The youngest child and daughter, Marjorie Snow Floyd, was born in 1885 and married in 1907 to Thomas J. “Boss” Jacques, son of David Lauren “Tick” Jacques and Sarah Jane Anderson. They resided in the Center Point community of Howard County where Boss farmed. They were the parents of two children: Calvin Floyd, b. 1908, d. 1991, m. 1939 Mary Conway Power (1912-1994); and Thompie Aurelia, b. 1913, d. 2006, m. Robert A. “Bob” Lawrence (1911-1965).

The daughter, Thompie, and her husband, Bob Lawrence, resided in Texarkana where they reared their three children: Evelyn, b. 1935, m. Morgan Medlin; Frances “Fran,” b. 1936, d. 1977, m. Herman Ray “Poochy” Robinson; and Calvin Mack, b. 1944, m. Joey Malone.

The son, Calvin Floyd Jacques, and his wife, Mary Conway Power, daughter of William Turner Power and Lou Anna Bacon, made their home in Okolona, Ark., where he was teacher, principal, and superintendent of a small, two-school system. Mary Conway was a teacher, office assistant and licensed practical nurse. They were the parents of two children: William Thomas “Bill” Jacques, b. 1939, m. Sherry Clark; and Marjorie Lou, b. 1944, d. 2017, m. 1969 Curtis Hampton Thomasson. Bill retired from the U.S. Air Force and currently resides with his wife and son in Georgetown, Tex. Margie died 12-29-2017 in Andalusia, Ala., where her husband continues to make his home. She was buried in the Thomasson plot in the Cedar Grove Church of Christ Cemetery in Andalusia.
