First Baptist Church is inviting the community – and especially parents of teens – to watch “Screenagers” at the church next week.

Mandy Wilburn, who works with children at FBC, said, “Basically, this is a documentary that helps parents negotiate the world of digital with their kids.”

Physician and filmmaker Delaney Ruston learned that the average kid spends 6.5 hours a day looking at screens. In the documentary, she explores struggles over social media, video games, academics, and internet addiction.

“She looks at how it impacts development,”Mrs. Wilburn said. “Instead of‘Get off your phone,’ she takes you through a conversation. Your child can learn how to control the addiction with parents’ help.”

FBC pastor Dr. Kevin Wilburn said the information helps parents help teens learn how to have balance and “go outside time.”

Mrs. Wilburn said many organizations charge admission, but FBC is offering the film as a service to the community.

The free documentary will be shown at 6 p.m. on Wed., May 1, and at 10 a.m. on Thurs., May 2.
