A grant opportunity is again available for students attending LBW Community College this summer.

“The LBWCC Foundation is making grant funds available again this summer after a successful incentive program last year,” said LBWCC President Dr. Herb Riedel.

“The funds provide students the chance to take one class and get a three credit-hour class free. We are very grateful for the ongoing encouragement and support of students from LBWCC Foundation directors, and believe this grant will again make a huge difference for some students to achieve their educational dreams.”

The “Summer Incentive Grant” was established specifically to help LBWCC students, whether enrolled for the entire summer term or either of the two summer mini-terms, said Wayne Bennett, Foundation president.

“The Foundation is pleased to be able to help students in this way,” he said. “Students who meet the established requirements must first pay for a three to four credit-hour class to get a grant-funded three-hour class. The grant will be applied as applications are received for as long as the funds last.”

The “buy one get one free” incentive applies to current LBWCC students; 2019 high school graduates; transient students, defined as those who attend a four-year institution and are home for the summer; and rising high school juniors and seniors participating in academic dual enrollment or accelerated programs.

“This is such a good opportunity for those who have just graduated high school to get a jump-start on their higher education goals, which in turn could lead to completing a college credential faster than their peers,” said Riedel.

“Students home from a four-year institution for the summer can pick up a couple of courses here at LBW, pay for the first class at half the cost they typically pay at their four-year institution and get a second, three credit-hour class free.”

Academic dual enrollment students gain high school and college credit for their classes, while high school accelerated program students take college-level courses for college credit. For both programs, incoming juniors and seniors must have approval from their principal or counselor and complete all LBWCC admission application requirements.

The online application for the LBWCC Foundation “Summer Incentive Grant” funds, which do not have to be repaid, is available for download and printing at www.lbwcc.edu. Students are required to complete all required admissions paperwork, and register and pay for the first class by May 23, 2019.
